In case you haven’t noticed, fae fiction is trending, and it’s not just for teens. Whether you’re looking for dark and spicy or sweet and adventurous, there’s a fae fiction series for you. I’ve assembled a collection of some of the hottest and highest-reviewed fae fiction for you to explore.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, the first book in the Folk of the Air series, features seventeen-year-old Jude, a human captured with her two sisters and brought to live in the High Court of Faerie. Jude both despises and longs to be like the fey in equal measure. To win a place at court she must battle the cruelest son of the High King. But in doing this, she must tap into her own darkness and face an uncertain future for herself, her sisters, and Faerie.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, book one of the series of the same name, finds nineteen-year-old Feyre dragged to a magical land of the Fae after killing a wolf. Feyre discovers her brutal captor, Tamlin, is an immortal faerie who can also be not so beastly. Her hostility for Tamlin turns to passion and, when he and his world are threatened, Feyre finds herself wanting to save them all.

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa is the first book of the Iron Fey series. Meghan witnesses her father’s disappearance at age six. Ever since then, something’s seemed off. Her world turns upside down when she learns she’s the daughter of a faery king and being hunted by his enemy. How far will she go to protect her loved ones from a mysterious evil and fight for the love of a prince?

Fae novels and fae beings come in many different flavors and forms, but you won’t disappointed by any of the stories in this list.

An Irish mythological Beauty and the Beast retelling, Heart of the Fae is the first book in the Otherworld series by Emma Hamm. A plague sweeps through Sorcha’s village, leaving her father deathly ill. To save him, she must traverse the sea to find a banished, cursed now–king of criminals fae named Eamonn. To get the cure, Sorch must break Eamonn’s curse. But she’s not alone in the quest, as brownies, pixies, and will-o’-the-wisps join in.

Dark Fae, Black World book one, by Quinn Blackbird, is a dark paranormal romance. This book features April, a sickly human spurned by her own people. Her ancestors made bargains with the dark fae royals, and now the seventh prince has come to collect her. Find out April’s fate in Dark Fae.

Dead Until Dark is the first of the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. This series was transformed into a television series for HBO. I found the television series much more shocking than the books. Sookie Stackhouse has no clue she’s a fairy, or part fairy. All she knows is she can hear every thought of everyone she’s ever crossed paths with. That is, until she meets Bill Compton, a vampire mostly mainstreaming into human life with synthetic human blood.

Lament by Maggie Stiefvater is the first installment in the Books of Faerie. Sixteen-year-old Deirdre is musically gifted and oblivious to her hidden gift. She’s a cloverhand, one who can see faeries. Luke appears in the normal suburban town and Deirdre is immediately infatuated. But he’s a soulless faerie assassin sent by an evil Faerie Queen to end Deirdre and her music. And Luke’s not the only one hunting her. Can Deirdre escape her fate?

To Be a Fae Queen is the first book of the Realm Chronicles series by Tricia Copeland. Fifteen-year-old Princess Titania lost her brothers in a brutal war. After stopping the same invaders that killed her siblings, Titania is handed the crown. Not everyone wants to see a young female queen in the monarchy, and her reign is challenged by once-close advisors. Should Titania abdicate her crown? Or perhaps a well-chosen marriage could garner support?

I hope you’ve found a fae series that captivates your interest in this list. Fae novels and fae beings come in many different flavors and forms, but I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed by any of the stories in this list.

Happy reading!
